Spatial-Symbolic Query Engine in Anatomy

Overview

The spatial-symbolic query engine is a web service that connects spatial and symbolic anatomical knowledge, and the user or another application can access it through the web service and web interface. The web interface is connected to the web service and permits users to define queries related to spatial and symbolic knowledge, and get answers such as 'What organs are anterior to the lower lobe of the left lung?'

The spatial-symbolic query engine has been developed by Antoine Puget, Onard Mejino, Todd Detwiler, Joshua Daniel Franklin and Jim Brinkley. We also benefited from the work of Marianne Shaw.

Web User Interface

A demo will be available shortly. In the meantime, a section with screenshots provides you with a guide for the web user interface features.

Spatial Relation Definitions

The spatial relation definitions used for the query engine are detailed through a few key pictures that describe each spatial relation.
