Biological Structure/Digital Anatomist Group Macintosh Info-Finder document This document is a master index to the information available about Macintosh-related (and browser-related) topics. It contains the name, location, and a short review of the contents for each document. File names, where given, look like "host:path/filename" where "path" may be a long series of folders or directory names. "Cortex" is the Mac IIx in F503. Bill Barker knows what all the other hosts are. (NOTE: several references may be missing or out-of-date; it would be best to check my administrative web pages to see if any documents supersede those referred to here, especially those relating to browser server software configurations and file formats -- KRE 1/4/95). Files are stored in one of the following formats: - ASCII text - Microsoft Word 4.0 for the Mac (styled text) - Microsoft Works 3.0 for the Mac (databases/spreadsheets) - MacDraw II (draw graphics) Location SYSTEM ADMINISTRATION Cortex:Cortex/Management/Master doc index - this file; contains index of other available documents Cortex:Cortex/Management/Macs/Mac master list - shows the network setup for each Mac in the department (including IP numbers) Cortex:Cortex/Management/Net Config/Net Map, appletalk - a picture of where the wires go for LocalTalk networking (other documents in the same directory are stale, but may be useful) Cortex:Cortex/Management/Macs/Mac network administration - contains a short procedure for installing MacTCP and related apps - tells about the GatorBox and StarController configurations BROWSER-RELATED Cortex:Cortex/Digital Anatomy/(admin docs)/FrameBuilder guide - tells how to collect pictures and make Browser data sets out of them - contains procedure for uploading browser data sets to Unix server hosts Cortex:Cortex/Digital Anatomy/(admin docs)/Administration guide - slightly out of date, but describes the general procedure for installing the Browser on a Mac and troubleshooting a few common problems Cortex:Cortex/Digital Anatomy/(admin docs)/scripting language - reference for the commands that can be used in Browser script files Cortex:Cortex/Digital Anatomy/(admin docs)/Server administration guide - tells how the Unix side of the Browser's client-server mechanism works, and details the locations of all the pertinent files Cortex:Cortex/Digital Anatomy/(admin docs)/installing INETD servers (mirrored on vastus:/disk2/si/development/inetd.txt) - tells how to set up a Unix program as a TCP-accessible server Cortex:Cortex/Management/Unix reference - a quick-reference page showing several Unix commands that have proven useful Cortex:Cortex/Digital Anatomy/(admin docs)/scripting language - contains a summary of all the configuration options that can be used in Browser script files such as the "settings" file Cortex:Cortex/Digital Anatomy/Beta test/browser sites.wks Cortex:Cortex/Digital Anatomy/Beta test/contact history.wks - configuration and contact info for all past and current users of the Browser Cortex:Cortex/Digital Anatomy/(user docs) - contains files with user documentation intended to go into the jacket on the "Human Brain Anatomy" CD Cortex:Cortex/Browser source - contains full C source code for the Browser; as with any program, the source is the most up-to-date and complete documentation!
