Biology and Informatics

Class Project

Your assignment is to write a report summarizing the application of informatics to one of the biology areas we discuss in class. Your report should review one aspect of the biological topic, discuss the informatics issues related to that topic, summarize informatics-related work that has been done to-date in that area (comparing and contrasting alternate approaches), and discuss future research directions.

Requirements:

≥ 10 pages, as per submission format for JAMIA

* Margins 1 inch all around
* Left justify only
* Double spacing
* Twelve-point Times New Roman font (preferred)

≥ 5 primary references; review articles and web sites may be referenced in addition to these.

 

Suggested organization:

Use headings or subcategories to clarify the organization of your paper

Introduction: description of the biological topic

Informatics Issues: the issues that arise

Related work: informatics work in the literature to solve these issues

Conclusions and future directions: what has been accomplished, what remains to be solved.


References

The style of references is the Vancouver style as used by Index Medicus. List all authors when there are six or fewer; otherwise list the first three followed by et al. Cite sources numerically according to order of citation.
