MEBI 534 , Autumn 2007
Biology and Informatics

Readings

Biology reading assignments are taken from these and other references. All are online, but not always easy to read.  Since so many reading assignments in the second part of the course are from Alberts ECB you might want to buy a harcdopy.
  • Hollinshead's textbook of anatomy (RGR)
Cornelius Rosse, Penelope Gaddum-Rosse. 5th ed.
    Philadelphia, PA : Lippincott-Raven Publishers, c1997. ISBN = 0397512562
    QS 4 R828h 1997
  • Human Anatomy (Marieb)
    Marieb, E. N., Mallatt, J.
Menlo Park, CA., Addison Wesley, 1997
  • Anatomy and Physiology the Easy Way (APTEW)
    Alcamo, IE; Barron's Educational
    Press, 1996
  • Essential Cell Biology (Alberts ECB) 2nd edition
    Alberts, B., Bray, D., Hopkins, K., Johnson, A., Lewis, J., Raff, M., Roberts, K., Walter, P.
    New York, Garland Science, 2004.
The following two are optional online sources for the second half of the course. They are much more detailed than Alberts ECB, which is designed for undergraduates or advanced high school students (but I think ECB gives enough of the detail needed for informatics).
  • Molecular Biology of the Cell 4th Edition Online at NCBI (AlbertsGrad)
    Alberts, B., Johnson, A., Lewis, J., Raff, M., Roberts, K., Walter, P.
    New York, Garland Science, 2002.
  • Molecular Cell Biology 4th edition Online at NCBI (Lodish4e)
    Lodish, H., Berk, A., Zipursky, S.L., Matsudaira, P., Baltimore, D., Darnell, J.E.; 4th Ed.
New York, W.H. Freeman & Co.
